Our Home Catheter Care Services

Assessment & Planning

• A registered nurse assesses the catheter type, your fluid intake, hygiene abilities, and mobility before creating a tailored care plan

Routine Maintenance & Hygiene

• Daily cleansing of the catheter entry site with mild soap and water, front-to-back for women, under the foreskin for men.

• Regular inspection for redness, leaks, irritation or discharge that may indicate infection.

 Drainage Bag Management

• Leg bags emptied before ¾ full—bag always kept below bladder level, tubing untangled and off the floor 

• Day bag replaced weekly; night/downdrains used safely per manufacturer’s guidance leaflets.

Monitoring & Preventing Complications​

• Monitor urine output, colour, odour, or sediment—record and report abnormal findings 

• Recognise early signs of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) such as fever, cloudiness, bladder spasms or discomfort—prompt escalation ensures safety. 

​Catheter Changes & Troubleshooting​

• Routine catheter changes every 3 months or as needed, by qualified staff.

• Gentle repositioning, secure taping and flushing protocols (only by trained staff) to prevent discomfort or blockage.

Coordination with Clinical Teams​

• We work closely with district nurses, GPs, and continence specialists to deliver seamless, integrated care including recatheterisation, medication review, and escalation when complications arise ​
