Frequently asked questions
Can you live a normal life with a stoma bag?
After your bowel has fully healed, there is no impediment to resuming work. If your job entails significant physical exertion, especially involving heavy lifting, you might need to use a support belt or girdle, and your stoma nurse or trained carers can offer guidance on this. It is probable that it will take several months before you are prepared to resume work.
Are you considered disabled if you have a colostomy bag?
Disability is not determined by the ability to walk a specific distance or the functionality of one's limbs. Regardless of whether you perceive yourself as disabled, under the law, living with a stoma is considered a disability.
How do people cope with a stoma?
Connect with fellow individuals with ostomies—sometimes known as ostomates. Whether through a local support group or online community, seeking guidance from those with similar experiences is an excellent way to enhance your confidence. It provides an opportunity to pose questions that you might feel uncomfortable asking your doctor or nurse.
